The electrolyte and the permeable membrane separate the electrolytic cell from the water sample, and the permeable membrane can selectively let ClO⁻ pass through; there is a fixed potential difference between the two electrodes, and the generated current intensity can be converted into the residual chlorine concentration. Because there is a fixed conversion relationship among HOCl, ClO⁻ and residual chlorine under certain temperature and pH conditions, residual chlorine can be measured in this way.

The modulated green light irradiates the fluorescent substance to excite it and emit red light. We use a red light source synchronized with the green light as a reference, measure the phase difference between the emitted red light and the reference light, compare it with the internal calibration value, thereby calculating the concentration of oxygen molecules, and output the final oxygen value after temperature compensation.

The solubility of oxygen in water depends on temperature, pressure, and the salinity of the dissolved substances in water. The sensor part of the membrane dissolved oxygen analyzer consists of a gold electrode (cathode), a silver electrode (anode), and a potassium chloride or potassium hydroxide electrolyte. Oxygen diffuses through the membrane into the electrolyte. The gold electrode and silver electrode form a measurement circuit. When a polarizing voltage is applied to the electrodes of the dissolved oxygen analyzer, oxygen diffuses through the membrane, the cathode releases electrons, and the anode accepts electrons, generating a current. According to Faraday's law, the current flowing through the electrodes of the dissolved oxygen analyzer is proportional to the partial pressure of oxygen, and there is a linear relationship between the current and the oxygen concentration when the temperature is constant.
